The Youth Section is open to all abilities and is based on the Canadian “Sport for Life” model. There is a huge drop off in participation in physical activity through the teenage years. We want to get the youths to think of physical activity as a normal part of their lifestyle, that they can then continue with throughout their adult life.

We tailor the training to the various abilities and try to make it as interesting and fun as possible. We also try to avoid excessive emphasis on competition, which is a big reason for the drop off in participation. At the same time we do have the coaching structures in place if individuals have a particular talent that they wish to take further.

Fit for life...
The club have a very friendly fit for life section and here you can find a group of runners who are enjoying getting fit in a fun and structured session. Many of our members join 'Fit for Life' for reasons other than running and in doing so find they get bitten by the running bug. Many from our 'Fit for Life' group have embedded themselves in the club and are a huge part of DDAC 's success story. The group provides an opportunity for anyone new to running to learn the basics with like-minded people of similar ability. Many of our members prefer the company of a group as opposed to running alone- and that is not confined to the fit for life group! The comradery found in group training is a whole new experience. Whether you are a beginner or a sub 5 minute miler there is nothing more reassuring than knowing those running alongside you are digging deep and getting it tough too. If you fancy giving it a try to see if it's for you then make contact. Like so many members before you it may be the best decision you make this side of living life.
Couch to 5k...
If, like many, you are not sure whether running will be for you, we run Couch to 5k programmes through the year.  You pay 50euro to join this programme, and it usually runs for eight weeks, with two structured sessions per week.  We have all levels from absolute complete beginners, who have never run before, to 5k improvers in this programme.  They are coached by experienced athletes and coaches and usually all aim to complete a 5k race at the end of the programme.  If upon finishing this programme you decide you would like to join our club, then you will receive a discount on your membership for the remainder of the year.
